High surf on the Great Lakes leaves behind an unending supply of rounded stones. “I am an amateur geologist,” says artist Elizabeth G. Fagan. “My favorite rocks are Banded Iron Formation (BIF). Some are 2.7 billion years old—among the oldest rocks on Earth.”
