“A Great Lake is a massive wilderness that’s different every day, every season,” says artist Elizabeth G Fagan. “Sometimes Lake Michigan is simply a horizontal line—the point at which air meets water. The artist’s job is to identity lakefront drama and enhance its beauty.”

Art by Season

The Great Lakes region of North America enjoys four distinct seasons. Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter bring changes to the natural world, not only in average temperature, but also in animals and plants, the Great Lakes, and the sky above.

“The climate at Lake Michigan’s Left Coast is more moderate than it is to the west and north,” says artist Elizabeth G Fagan. “Tucked between lake bluffs on the west and Lake Michigan on the east, this narrow strip sees temperatures that are cooler in Summer and warmer in Winter. It’s a Maritime climate.”

Seasonal themes run deep in Fagan’s work. To view examples, in the tag cloud at left, click a month representative of a season.
