Great Lakes beaches can change in appearance daily. High surf leaves behind an unending supply of rounded stones. “My favorite rocks are Banded Iron Formation (BIF),” says artist Elizabeth G. Fagan. “They arrived from iron formations near Lake Superior. Some are among the oldest rocks on Earth, dating back 2.7 billion years.”
