Lake Michigan Rocks VIII, 12″x12″
About the Art
Great Lakes beaches can change in appearance daily. Lake Michigan’s Left Coast is often covered with multicolored rocks, many of them deposited by glaciers. Fossils abound. “My favorite rocks are Banded Iron Formation (BIF),” says artist Elizabeth G. Fagan. “They arrived here from iron formations near Lake Superior. Some are among the oldest rocks on Earth, dating back 2.7 billion years.”
