“Portraying a Great Lake in a single image is a challenge. If you point and shoot, you might get a horizontal line—the point at which air meets water,” says artist Elizabeth G Fagan. “But in person, a Great Lake is a massive wilderness that’s different every day. I took the photo behind this art in October, 2016. By January, 2019, the tree had almost fallen into Lake Michigan’s rising water. “

Elizabeth G Fagan is an artist and writer who resides in southeastern Wisconsin—a place she calls Lake Michigan’s Left Coast. Her art begins with her own photography.
